Illustration Friday: Pretend
I drew this sketch of myself during church yesterday, where I was pretending. Or was I pretending to be pretending? Maybe I was pretending to be pretending to be pretending! Ouch, my head hurts...
am i here or am i pretending to be here... i'm pretending to be here... but you know that i'm pretending to be you so is that actual pretending??? i'm confused...
When I am in a balcony at church looking down, I always imagine myself throwing a spear at someone on stage. I think this probably comes from watching too many Tarzan movies as a kid.
Now I am pretending that this comment makes sense.
Are we all pretending when we're at church (or pretending to pretend)? To sing, read the usual stuff, get into it (throw spears at people--Doug!)? I sometimes pretend I want to be there.
Thanks for telling it like it is, Bill. Cool sketch, too!
I was born to, and raised by two very caring humans on Flora Street in Wichita, Kansas who did the best they could. During my childhood, my uncanny drawing skills kept me safe in the hood. Then, after serving several arduous years at Wichita State University, my toughness and cleverness that I acquired on the streets of Wichita enabled me to escape from Wichita under a tarp in the back of a southbound livestock/art supply truck. Nestled between a pig and a pile of 11"x14" spiral bound sketchbooks I found myself seeking my fortune in Dallas, Texas. Though my fortune eluded me, I did manage to have a great time drawing funny pictures for a lot of fine folks in that fine city. I was later fortunate to make the brilliant decision to move to Nashville, Tennessee, the greatest city on the planet. I know, that's a debatable assessment of Nashville, but I really, really like it here. I'm convinced that if I could sing, play an instrument, or were good looking, I could be a country music star. Till then, I make my living drawin' funny pictures, and painting rectangular paintings.
